Help With CRA Balances & Taxpayer Relief

A CRA balance can be easier to address when the records, notices and outstanding returns are organised. Bejeweled Accounting & Tax Ltd helps individuals and small businesses prepare a clearer picture of their accounts and the information needed for a discussion with CRA. We work virtually with clients in Halifax, Edmonton, Nova Scotia, Alberta and across Canada.

Our support is agreed in advance. It may include bookkeeping cleanup, organising correspondence, preparing cash-flow information and helping assemble a taxpayer relief request. We explain the proposed work and fees before starting. CRA makes its own decisions; payment arrangements and relief outcomes are not guaranteed.

Understand the balance

Start with the current CRA notice and account details. Identify the tax program, periods involved, payments already made and any returns that remain outstanding. We can help compare the available information with your bookkeeping and flag differences for follow-up. Keep copies of notices and payment confirmations so the same account and period are discussed throughout.

Payment arrangements

If you cannot pay in full, review CRA’s official payment options. Prepare a realistic income-and-expense or cash-flow summary showing what you can pay now and regularly. Online options and telephone assistance are available, depending on the account. Contact an assigned collections officer promptly using the number on your letter. We help with preparation; we do not approve the arrangement.

Taxpayer relief requests

CRA may consider cancelling or waiving certain penalties and interest in qualifying circumstances. A request needs a clear explanation of what happened, when it happened and how it affected your ability to meet the obligation. Relevant supporting documents are important. We can help organise that chronology and assemble records within the agreed engagement.

Relief from penalties and interest does not cancel the assessed tax itself. CRA has time limits and eligibility rules, and interest can continue while a request is reviewed. We use current official guidance rather than promise a result. Discuss your account-specific questions during a consultation.

Common questions

Can you guarantee CRA will accept my request?
No. CRA reviews the circumstances and supporting information and decides whether to grant relief.

Is a payment arrangement the same as relief?
No. An arrangement concerns paying a debt over time. Relief concerns eligible penalties or interest and requires separate consideration.

What should I bring?
Bring CRA notices, relevant returns, payment records and a timeline of events. We identify further documents after the initial review.

Can I stop dealing with current obligations?
Do not assume a request changes your current filing or payment responsibilities. Review CRA’s guidance and the terms for your account.
